Hitachi and The Hitachi Foundation Announce Support to Aid Victims of Hurricane Katrina and Affected Areas
TOKYO, Japan, September 5, 2005 --- Hitachi, Ltd.(NYSE:HIT/TSE:6501) and The Hitachi Foundation, today pledged a total of US$1 million in support to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina and assist restoration efforts in affected areas. "The devastation along the gulf coast of the United States is yet another stark reminder that we are part of a global community. We at Hitachi respond in times of need," said Hiroaki Nakanishi, Chief Executive for North America of Hitachi, Ltd., a Japanese-based global corporation with major operations throughout North America. "Hitachi's commitment is evident in times of crisis, and we are also there when the cameras and headlines turn to other matters," added Barbara Dyer, president & CEO of The Hitachi Foundation, established by Hitachi, Ltd. in 1985 as an independent nonprofit organization. In addition to the support pledged by the Hitachi corporate office and the Foundation, employees at Hitachi Group companies are also raising funds for this cause.
