Hitachi Sells Shares of Elpida Memory |

Tokyo, September 13, 2005---- Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501/ NYSE:HIT) today announced it has sold shares of Elpida Memory, Inc.(TSE:6665).

Following the sales, Hitachi owns 18,999,980 shares, which represent 19.70 % of the issued and outstanding shares of Elpida Memory. |

2. Impact on FY2005 financial results
The sale of shares is expected to record approximately 5 billion yen in income before income tax and minority interests and approximately 3 billion yen in net income, respectively, on consolidated bases.
3. The relationship between Elpida Memory and Hitachi
Although Elpida Memory is no longer an equity-method affiliate of Hitachi as a result of the sale, the two companies will maintain a relationship as business partners.
