HITACHI POWER SYSTEMS AMERICA, LTD. SIGNS FABRIC FILTER TECHNOLOGY LICENSE AGREEMENT

Hitachi offers total environmental solutions

BASKING RIDGE, NJ, September 19, 2011 – Hitachi Power Systems America, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd., today announced that it has signed a license agreement with Balcke-Dürr GmbH (Balcke-Dürr), a subsidiary of SPX Corporation, to design and supply fabric filters for the U.S. market based on Balcke-Dürr's leading technology. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fabric filter technology plays an increasingly important role in pollution control for coal-fired power plants. It not only controls particulate matter, but it also has a significant impact to the effective removal of trace pollutants such as acid gases and heavy metals.

The Balcke-Dürr technology utilizes pulse jet cleaning featuring Advanced Energy Saving Management (AESM) both on-line and off-line modes and has a new proprietary twin valve system for optimum cleaning efficiency of filter bags. In 2008, Hitachi purchased twelve (12) large units of this state-of-the-art technology for Eskom's 800 MW power stations in South Africa.

“Having been selected by Hitachi as the supplier of fabric filters for the new Medupi and Kusile power stations in South Africa, SPX is pleased to now have a licensing agreement with Hitachi to expand the marketing of this efficient technology to power producers in North America,” said Drew Ladau, SPX segment president. “Our technology offers power producers a cost-effective way to help limit emissions.”

Henry Bartoli, president and CEO of Hitachi Power Systems America, Ltd. stated, “Balcke-Dürr's technology is a great addition to HPSA's portfolio of emission control products and services and allows us to be a total environmental solutions provider to better serve our customers.  This agreement reflects Hitachi's global commitment to support our efforts as an industry leader in the reduction of emissions from power generation facilities.”
