Babcock-Hitachi Wins Flue Gas Desulfurization System Order for
Coal-Fired Power Plant in Poland

Tokyo, March 6, 2013 --- Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501) today announced that Babcock-Hitachi K. K. a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., has received an order from ENEA Wytwarzanie S.A., an electric power utility in the Republic of Poland, for a Flue Gas Desulfurization (hereinafter "FGD") system to be used to collectively treat the combined flue gas from units 1, 2, 7, and 8 (total capacity: 860 MW) of the Kozienice Power Station. The equipment is scheduled to commence operation in July 2015.

Plans by the EU to tighten regulations on the emission of sulfur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from thermal power plants from January 2016 have prompted European power companies to adopt measures that include the retrofitting of SOx and NOx removal system.

Babcock-Hitachi's FGD system is an effective means of preventing atmospheric pollution, and is capable of removing SOx and other contaminants from coal flue gas at power plants with a high degree of efficiency. Since the 1970's, Babcock-Hitachi has installed a large number of FGD systems in Japan and other countries, and in Poland, it has installed three systems at the Kozienice Power Station between 2001 and 2010.

This new order is for the retrofitting of a FGD system to collectively treat the flue gas from units 1, 2, 7, and 8 at the Kozienice Power Station. Located approximately 70 km south-southeast of Warsaw, Kozienice Power Station (total capacity: 2.8 GW*) is one of the largest in Poland. The order follows on from another received in September 2012 for the newly constructed unit 11. and results from the recognition by the customer of the high reliability of the FGD systems previously installed at the site. As a result of this new order, all eleven units at the Kozienice Power Station will be fitted with Babcock-Hitachi's FGD systems.

Babcock-Hitachi anticipates a significant volume of work from the European market, and is actively engaged in marketing in Europe and Asia. It intends to continue contributing to reduction of environmental burden through the supply of its highly efficient equipments and systems.
