Analog Devices Licenses Hitachi's H8/300H Microprocessor Core

- H8 core to be used in ADI's GSM chipset and other ADI wireless
communication projects -

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) and Hitachi, Ltd. announced today a license agreement for Hitachi's 16-bit microprocessor H8/300H core. ADI also has the option of licensing Hitachi's next generation H8S/ 2000 core. The agreement creates a strong partnership between the two companies in the area of wireless communications.

H8/300H is one of Hitachi's H8 Series of 16-bit CPUs, featuring high-speed operation and low power consumption, and it is widely used as a de facto standard controller, especially for wireless communications. The H8S/2000 Series is the next generation 16-bit CPU series announced on September 18, 1995, and is upward-compatible with the H8/300H, featuring an enhanced RISC-like architecture that completes basic instructions in one clock cycle, 50 ns with a 20 MHz clock.

With fiscal 1995 revenues of $942 million, Analog Devices is a leading manufacturer of precision high-performance integrated circuits used in analog and digital signal processing applications.
