15 April 1996
Hitachi, Ltd. will release on April 16 the MP5600 processor. The extensive use of CMOS technology combined with powerful parallel processing functions enables the MP5600 to deliver excellent cost- performance in a highly compact system package. The MP5600 is positioned between the MP5800 released in April 1995 and MP5400 released in September 1995, completing the lineup of M Parallel Series systems. The provision of added support for parallel processing on up to 32 Central Processing Nodes (CPNs) provides scalable system expansion options. On April 16, Hitachi will also release an entry-level MP5800 processor, the Model 160, the VOS3/FS operating system with enhanced functions, and solution services products that support the new systems.
Extensive use is made of the latest CMOS devices and technology throughout the MP5600, with the aim of achieving a high level of performance in a system that is highly compact, uses less energy, provides excellent cost-performance and can be readily expanded.
In response to scalability requirements, Hitachi developed a number of system devices and technologies, including the H-6710 Highspeed Connection Control Feature (HCCF) for high-speed parallel processing, a Processor Management Console (PMC) that provides consolidated control and operating of multiple CPNs, and Parallel System Timer (PST), and added the ability to perform parallel processing on up to 32 CPNs to the existing intra-CPN parallel processing capability. Also, VOS3/FS now supports inter-CPN parallel processing capabilities in batch processing, database processing and transaction processing. Links with open systems have been strengthened by providing support for direct channel connectivity with open servers, links with open systems and Internet connectivity.
