Hitachi Enhances Line-up of PC Servers and Releases
"Hitachi Advanced Server HA8000 Series"
- 5 models accommodates up to eight of latest
Pentium(R) II XeonTM processors -
Hitachi, Ltd. today announced new line-up of PC servers, the HITACHI Advanced Server HA8000 Series. This family
will generally constitute the core of key business systems. The company will start to market the products on July 1.
The HA8000 series is equipped with Pentium(R) II processors, including the latest Intel Pentium(R)
II XeonTM Processor (400 MHz). The high-end model, based on a Hitachi-developed chip set, incorporates pioneer technology making it possible to configure a multi-processor system consisting of up to eight processors (8-way). This family also incorporates Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, and other of the latest I/O speedup technologies, in view of the upcoming generation of technologies, thus enhancing total system performance.
This HA8000 Series will also be released in the US market within this fiscal year.
Servers, which will constitute the core of key business operations, are required to achieve powerful processing performance, high scalability, high reliability that provides stable performance in a continuous manner,
and space-saving performance in offices when clusters are connected and several application-specific servers are installed.
To meet these market needs, Hitachi is releasing Advanced Server HA8000 Series.
[Features of new products]
-
- A fast CPU based on the industry's latest technology (enabling 8-way multiprocessing)
- High-performance CPUs are employed, such as the
latest Pentium(R) II XeonTM(400 MHz) and Pentium(R) II (400 MHz). The HA8000/380 enables up to 8-way multiprocessing, the HA8000/260 enables 4-way multiprocessing, and the HA8000/180 and 150 enable
2-way multiprocessing.
-
- Latest fast I/O technology
- Fibre Channel (a fast serial interface of 100 MB/s),
Gigabit Ethernet (which enables the buildup of backbone LANs), and the latest I/O speedup technology (such as a 64-
bit PCI bus) are employed to achieve high performance,
which is a must for key business operations (HA 8000/380 and 260).
- An Ultra2 SCSI interface with 16-bit bus width is
used to enable fast data transmission (HA8000/380).
-
- High reliability
- A highly reliable cluster system (compatible with
Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R)Server Enterprise Edition Version4.0) achieves high availability (HA8000/380, 260, 180, and 150).
- All models support disk array systems (HA8000/40
is compatible with external equipment).
- The disk array system has hot plug and hot spare
functions, realizing high reliability against disk errors.
- The redundant power supply system (backup power supply)
prevents system shut-down by using another power supply when one power supply is interrupted.
- The ECC memory with automatic memory error detection
and correction function makes data more reliable.
-
- High-expandability, high-speed, and large-capacity backup device
- A wide variety of backup devices are supported,
such as large-capacity DLT*1 with capacities up to 70 GB, DLT changers with a storage capacity of 15 DLT
rolls and DAT changers that accommodate up to six
DAT rolls. (DLT changer: HA8000/380)
-
- Space-saving rack-mounted model
- A rack-mounted type, 190 cm in height, which is easy
to carry into offices in Japan, is also available. Not only a server but a CRT, keyboard, mouse, UPS*2, and other equipment can be accommodated in the same cabinet in a compact manner. Application-specific servers for WWW, DNS/, mail, FTP, and other applications can also be
contained collectively in a cabinet, thus saving space
(HA8000/380 and 180).
-
- Ease of operation and management
- A server management tool, System Manager, is
available for effectively supporting the stable operation and management of servers. An NT cluster manager and other functions are available for managing the status of troubleshooting and maintenance status from remote sites, the power-on/off status of servers, and the operation status of cluster systems with the support of an SVP board. This facilitates operation and
management. (SVP*3 board: HA8000/380, 260, 180, and
150)
