Hitachi Restructures Semiconductor Operations
for Speedier Market Response
- New Semiconductor Group Includes System LSI
Business Division Among Four Product Divisions -
Hitachi, Ltd. today announced a reorganization of its
semiconductor operations to go into effect immediately:
(1) The Semiconductor & Integrated Circuits Division
and the Electronic Devices Business Group have been
reorganized and consolidated as the Semiconductor &
Integrated Circuits Group.
(2) The new Semiconductor & Integrated Circuits Group
is organized into four product divisions:
- System LSI Business Division: System LSIs,
Super H microcomputers, etc.
- System Memory Business Division: Flash memories,
SRAM, etc.
- DRAM Business Division: DRAMs.
- Multi-Purpose Semiconductor Business Division:
Diodes, Transistors, etc.
(3) The Electronic Devices Sales & Marketing Group paralleling the
organization of the new product divisions has also been established.
Hitachi says its aims are:
(1) Tighter integration of the production and marketing
aspects of the semiconductor business by consolidating
the Semiconductor & Integrated Circuits Division and the
Electronic Devices Business Group. The resulting
Semiconductor & Integrated Circuits Group and the
reorganization into four product divisions will enable Hitachi
to more rapidly adjust its semiconductor operations and
products in response to the needs of the individual market
sectors.
(2) Faster, more powerful response to market realities
by clearly defining responsibility and authority regarding
semiconductor operations. This will be achieved by making
the Multi-Purpose Semiconductor Business Division a self-
contained, stand-alone operation integrating all aspects of
the business from design through production
and marketing and by entrusting production planning and
other functions to the other three divisions.
(3) Strengthening the system LSI business by upgrading
system solution capability. For this, the System LSI
Business Operation and the Microcomputer & ASIC Business
Operation have been consolidated as the System LSI
Business Division and a System LSI Marketing Division
has been set up within the Electronic Devices Sales &
Marketing Group.
