On November 29, 1999, Hitachi Building Systems, Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd.,
acquired 90% of the outstanding shares of Seishin Service Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of The
Seibu Department Stores Ltd.
Up to now, Hitachi Building Systems has sold, installed, and maintained elevators,
escalators, and other building equipment and facilities. It has provided integrated building
management systems, such as remote surveillance and control systems.
With the acquisition of Seishin Service, Hitachi Building Systems adds building
management know-how in retail stores to its own fund of technology and experience.
Hitachi Building Systems has thus strengthened its operations and enhanced customer
satisfaction. Moreover, it has made a significant stride toward becoming a total solutions
company in the building management field.
In addition, the acquisition is one facet of the i.e. HITACHI Plan, a medium-term
business plan for the consolidated Hitachi Group, under which Hitachi is
transforming into a solutions company that provides services and systems, while
sustaining the strong value it creates as a manufacturer in terms of high quality and
productivity.
