Tokyo, Japan, December 14, 2000-Hitachi, Ltd.(TSE:6501) announced today that it had purchased shares of Xanavi Informatics Corporation held by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TSE: 7201) making the company a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi on December 8, 2000.
Xanavi Informatics Corporation was jointly established in January 1991 by Hitachi and Nissan Motor, with Hitachi holding a 51% stake and Nissan a 49% stake. The company developed, manufactured, and marketed such onboard information equipment as car audio and navigation systems and has been steadily expanding its operations.
Hitachi considers Xanavi Informatics' primary operations-its onboard information devices business-to be a high growth potential market to which it can apply its core electronics and communications technologies. By becoming a wholly owned Hitachi subsidiary, Xanavi Informatics Corporation will be able to conduct operations with cooperative and speedy managerial decision making together with Hitachi. By bringing to develop such competitive products as next-generation CIS (Car Information Systems), further business expansion will be achieved for the Hitachi Group.
Hitachi and Xanavi Informatics Corporation will continue to aggressively develop their operations with respect to Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and other automakers as well as after-sales markets in the global market.
