Hitachi and Nanya Agree To Patent Cross License |
Tokyo, Japan, March 28, 2001-- Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501) today announced
that Hitachi and Nanya Technology Corporation, a Taiwanese semiconductor
manufacturer, entered into a patent cross-license agreement relating
to semiconductor technology on March 12, 2001. In August 2000, Hitachi filed a lawsuit against Nanya and its U.S. subsidiary in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit involved three Hitachi patents relating to DRAM technology. Pursuant to the parties' agreement, Hitachi will receive certain royalty payment from Nanya. Hitachi's claim against Nanya will be dismissed. Other specific terms of the cross-license agreement were not disclosed. Hitachi is a global leader in the research and development of innovative semiconductor technologies. Through substantial investment in research and development, it has developed and maintains a broad and valuable patent portfolio in the semiconductor industry. Hitachi will continue to pursue all available legal remedies to protect its investment in its proprietary intellectual property. |
