For the first time, Engineers from Japan and Overseas Participate in the Same Competition

Tokyo, November 21, 2024 --- Hitachi Building Systems Co., Ltd (hereinafter Hitachi Building Systems) today announced that it held the Safety and Skills Competition with Hitachi, Ltd. (hereinafter Hitachi) from November 18 to 20 at its in-house training facilities in Tokyo. The contestants this time were elevator or air-conditioning equipment engineers who work for Hitachi Group companies in Japan and overseas.
This competition is held with the aim of improving the maintenance and installation skills and safety awareness of global engineers. 52 people selected from 11 domestic and overseas organizations including six branches of Hitachi Building Systems, Okinawa Hitachi Co., Ltd., ELCARE Co., Ltd., Hitachi Elevator (China) Co., Ltd., Hitachi Elevator Asia Pte. Ltd. In Singapore and Hitachi Elevator Engineering (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. participated in this year’s competition. They competed in practical skills and written tests in four divisions: elevator and escalator maintenance, legal inspection, installation and air-conditioning maintenance.
Hitachi Building Systems hosted the first Safety and Skills Competition in 1992, which engineers from domestic branch offices and Hitachi Group companies competed in. As of 2023, the competition has been held 17 times. The Overseas Safety Competition for elevator and escalator maintenance started in 2007, which contestants from overseas Hitachi Group companies participated in. As of 2018, it was held for 12 times. The latest competition integrated the Overseas Safety Competition into the Safety and Skills Competition and our overseas engineers joined the competition for the first time in six years. It is also the first time that engineers in Japan and overseas compete in the same events.
Through the Safety and Skills Competition and other in-house competitions and training curriculum designed based on the employee’s level, Hitachi Building Systems will promote events and initiatives to improve engineers’ skills and increase their awareness of safety.
