Tokyo, October 17, 2016 ---Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd.(“Hitachi Automotive Systems”) today announced that on October 14th, at the Fiscal 2016 Resource Recycling Technology System awards sponsored by the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry, the company received the Award of the Director-General of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, for its "reuse of electrical equipment".
The reuse of electrical equipment refers to a process comprising electrical equipment such as alternators and starters that have failed being recovered from automobile dealers and repair shops by the Hitachi Automotive Systems Group. The components are sorted, dismantled, inspected and evaluated, and parts that are reusable are cleaned for reuse. Non-reusable parts are replaced by new parts and rebuilt. After undergoing inspection they are reused, looking and functioning like genuine new parts. The thorough knowledge of the detailed structure of the electrical components has created a track record of contributing to a high degree of resource recirculation of automotive electrical equipment, resulting in the reception of this award. This includes the improvement history of component parts, inspection methods, and quality standards over the 22 years from 1994, during which time the company has continued to produce and sell rebuilt parts confirming to genuine new parts.
The Hitachi Group will resolve environmental issues and achieve both a higher quality of life and a sustainable society through its Social Innovation Business in collaborative creation with its stakeholders. Reuse of electrical equipment is intended to contribute to "a Resource Efficient Society" in the long-term environmental targets established by "Hitachi Environmental Innovation 2050".
