2016 Friendship Awards Ceremony
Tokyo, October 26, 2016 - Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501) announced that Hitachi Fellow Dr. Hideaki Koizumi was conferred the 2016 Friendship Award by the Chinese government.
Established in 1991, the Friendship Award is a prestigious award presented each year to 50*1 foreign researchers and educators who have contributed to China's modernization and the exchange of goodwill between China and other countries in areas such as society, economy, science and technology, education and culture.
The Award recognizes Dr. Koizumi's work in the research and development of topics such as “the creation of educational concepts based on Brain Science” and “the development and social implementation of various measurement principles,” and for his collaboration with Chinese institutions spanning over almost 20 years. During this period, his contributions to the field of Brain Science and Measurement received other recognitions. In December 2011, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the highest advisory academic body for engineering science, appointed Dr. Koizumi as Foreign Member of the Academy making him the fourth Japanese and the first person from Japanese industry to receive this honor. In 2015, he was also presented with the Outstanding Contribution Award by the China Association for Instrumental Analysis for “the development of the polarized Zeeman atomic absorption method.”*2
The awards ceremony was held on Thursday, 29 September 2016 at Zhongnanhai in Beijing, where Dr. Koizumi and the other award recipients were presented with a commemorative shield and a medal by Vice Premier MA Kai. On 30 September, they met with Premier LI Keqiang in the Great Hall of the People, near Tiananmen Square in Beijing, and later participated in the celebration of the Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China presided by President XI Jinping.
