Tokyo, November 30, 2016 ---Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. today announced that its lightweight, compact, and highly reliable lithium-ion battery module is being used in the new Suzuki Solio and Solio Bandit hybrid specification cars launched on November 29th. The module comprises a 100 volt lithium-ion battery power pack and an inverter.
The lithium-ion battery module is manufactured by the Hitachi Group company, Hitachi Vehicle Energy, Ltd., utilizing mass production and quality control expertise amassed over many years, and features high performance and high reliability. The module comprises a battery cell and a voltage detection board for the battery cell, housed in a single case. By using a resin case, the weight of the module has been reduced by 35% compared to the company's previous battery modules. The module is also compact, with height 37% lower than the company's previous modules, giving it excellent mounting properties.
In 1999 Hitachi Automotive Systems became a global pioneer when it launched its automotive lithium-ion battery business and since then has delivered more than 10 million battery cells for a wide range of hybrid vehicles that include buses and trucks as well as passenger cars (as of the end of September, 2016). Its lithium-ion batteries utilize mass production and quality control expertise developed and honed by many years of use and market feedback. The batteries have also won high praise from vehicle manufacturers in Japan and around the world.
Hitachi Automotive Systems will continue to contribute to the development of electrified vehicles through the provision of high performance, highly reliable lithium-ion batteries and other electric powertrain products in order to expand the market for electrified vehicles and contribute to the protection of the environment.
