Through our Global DEI Strategy, we aim for a more diverse workforce in terms of gender, age and nationality, particularly at leadership levels. The strategy is overseen at the executive level and by the global DEI councils.

We increase our employees with digital expertise through recruitment, acquisitions, and investment in upskilling our existing talent at the Hitachi Academy. In 2024, we aim to expand our digital workforce to 97,000 employees.

Feedback
We conduct an annual engagement survey of our employees to identify areas for improvement to influence positive individual and organizational change. The results are shared internally and targets are set to drive continuous improvement.

We take a holistic approach to supporting employee wellbeing. Among various initiatives, this includes offering comprehensive benefits and embracing flexible working styles.

Respecting human rights
We adhere to our Hitachi Group Human Rights Policy, which was created in 2013 based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
This is complimented by a range of comprehensive and robust guidelines, including our Human Rights Risk Management Implementation Manual.
In line with these standards, we conduct human rights due diligence and have established the Hitachi Global Compliance Hotline, which enables anyone inside and outside Hitachi to report concerns.
Supporting communities
Hitachi believes that diverse, thriving communities are essential for a sustainable future.
We support society in many ways, particularly focusing on the three areas of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), the environment, and community contribution.
Financial and in-kind support

Through financial and in-kind support, Hitachi delivers social impact on a wide range of global and local issues.
A particular focus is providing opportunities for the youth to experience science and technology, as a way to develop the next generation of workforce talent. Initiatives include the Hitachi High-Tech Science Education that has supported the teaching of science to 427,273 children since 1990. Elsewhere, Hitachi and its employees have provided support to provided support to earthquake and disaster relief efforts in Japan and Hawaii, and humanitarian aid donations to Ukraine.
Employee incentives
Hitachi aims to incentivize its employees to dedicate their time and resources to community building and social good.
Hitachi offers matching funds for employee donations to social causes such as disaster responses. Through matching-funds we raised approximately 1.4 million yen (about US$9,000) in 2023.
The Hitachi Global Foundation
The Hitachi Global Foundation conducts activities that contribute to social good.
Formed in 2015, the Foundation focuses on three areas: promotion of academic research, science and technology; human development; and realization of an inclusive society.
