A type of shaping technology for synthetic resins, in which the resin is caused to foam while filling up a die or other shape. This can be done in various ways, such as by mixing a foaming agent with the resin or blowing gas into the resin while shaping it. Bubbles are formed in the resin, so the materials have lower density, higher volume, and elasticity and flexibility than without bubbles.
Products manufactured with foam molding are light-weight, good insulators, and absorb shock very well, so the technique is used for products such as refrigerator insulation and automobile bumpers.
