IPv6, which stands for Internet Protocol Version 6, is the next-generation protocol that will succeed the conventional IPv4 Internet protocol. It has been close to 30 years since IPv4 was developed. In the years since then, Internet usage has grown in terms of scale and applications in a manner unimagined during the initial stages of IPv4's development. As a result, various problems are now arising. To solve these problems fundamentally and realize further drastic advances of the Internet, IPv6 was developed. In comparison to IPv4, IPv6 incorporates key features such as an enlarged address space (from 32 bits to 128 bits), alleviation of routing process, strengthening of security functions, and QoS guarantee mechanisms.
