Machine-to-machine
M2M refers to technologies for realizing a vision called the "Internet of Things (IoT)" in the form of a communication network through which mutual equipment possessing communication functions can autonomously exchange and match data. Its target is all "things" that surround people, which, in additional to PCs and mobile phones, include social infrastructures and the home appliances that people's lives depend on.
Some examples of M2M technologies are automatic collection of inspection data via "smart meters" with built in communication functions as well as remote management of operational status by embedded communication modules in equipment being used at industrial sites and in vending machines.
