Web 2.0 refers to Web technologies and services—based on fundamentally new ideas—that differ qualitatively from those services provided on the current Web. Likened to an updated version of software, the term Web 2.0 suggests a new version of the Web. Although a strict Web 2.0 specification does not exist, it is thought that "user participation", "collective intelligence", "rich user experience", and "single information source for multiple devices", etc. are features of Web 2.0. In contrast to conventional services providing static and closed content on websites, in the Web 2.0 world, new services can be made up by mutually linking up like-minded websites and content on the Internet and letting users actively partake in this process. Examples of such services are "blog" (i.e., web log) and "social networking service" (SNS).
