On August 31, the Global Center for Social Innovation-APAC, Research & Development Centre, Hitachi Asia, Ltd., held an open forum on the topic of "transformation of financial platforms and opportunities to create new business in Southeast Asia, brought about by advances in FinTech," and invited expert speakers from Monetary Authority of Singapore, United Overseas Bank, Google, GrabPay, among others to the Hitachi Asia Ltd headquarters in Tampines.
A total of 80 participants, including the 8 external participants, discussed how digital payment (cashless payment) can transform services, platform systems and the necessary mindset needed for innovation.
As the scope of the cashless society moves beyond mobility to other areas of industry, the invited experts suggested (1) establishing open platforms and building ecosystems, (2) building easy-to-use API (Application Programming Interface) for customers and partners, and (3) the importance of collaboration with other companies, during the forum.
In the future, the societal challenges in the APAC and Southeast Asia region will be investigated together with their solutions through open collaboration. Further, forums will be held inviting external experts, and through our understanding of societal issues and their solutions, contribute to the realization of Social Innovation.
