Administered by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry over a two-year period from August 2004 to July 2006, the "Hibiki" Project is a Japan's national project aimed at the development and popularization of electronic tags. As a concrete target, performing the necessary technical development for realizing an electronic tag with a sales price of five yen through monthly sales of a 100 million tags was stipulated. Having received a commissioned to take a central role of the Hibiki project, Hitachi Ltd. has advanced this development through cooperation between Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd., Toppan Printing Co. Ltd., NEC Corporation, and Fujitsu Ltd. Within the two-year project period, the above-described target was met, and a plan for practical application was set.
